Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! I have something exciting in store for you...my skincare routine. Now I am sure that was obvious from the title, but this is something a bit different to my usual posts, so without further ado let's get into it.
Some of you may not know this, but in my internship this past summer, I worked in cosmetics. I can't tell you how much I learned about skincare and makeup, but the most valuable things I learned turned into my skincare routine, so I will take you through my step by step routine.
Now to begin, I will chat quickly about hydrating my body. When I am in the shower, I use Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer while my skin is still wet. I think this product is the absolute best product for locking in the moisture after your shower. While I am at school, I tend to dry out after showers and this product is an immediate cure for that. Once out of the shower, I use Kiehl's Nourishing Dry Body Oil along with Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer. Using these products together are not only going to moisturize your skin, but they will also give your skin a natural glow. The Dry Body Oil makes your legs look like a movie star (not kidding). I always use it before I wear shorts or skirts just to make my skin look extra radiant.
Sidenote, on my hands throughout the day I use Kiehl's Richly Hydrating Hand Cream in Grapefruit. All of the scents are amazing, but grapefruit happens to be my favorite.
Now on to the fun stuff...skincare. Now to give you some background, I used to get terrible breakouts, now they are minimal, but I do still get them. When I get breakouts they are so stubborn (tragic), but it is usually caused by changes in my routine, traveling, hormones, drinking... and it is the worst. My acne from middle school and high school has left me with some bad scaring around my chin and the sides of my face. Even though my breakouts aren't how they used to be, I still have super oily skin and didn't realize you can be oily AND dry at the same time until this summer.
When I had my skin moisture level tested on my face I expected it to be pretty high considering how oily I get, but it came back extremely low. How? Well, acne cleansers. For years, I had been using cleansers to stop breakouts, and avoiding moisturizers that I thought would just make me more oily. Wow was I wrong. This is the regimen I ended up turning to and my skin has never looked better. I have less and less breakouts, my oil is under control (yas), and the visibility of my scaring is decreasing (score).
Makeup Remover
Neutrogena Makeup Remover (wipes)- I have used these for years and tried a few different products this year, but honestly, nothing works better than these bad boys to get your makeup off.
Cleanser
Kiehl's Calendula Cleaner- This cleanser foams up really nice and makes my skin feel truly clean. It is also great for ridding your skin of that oily feeling after using a makeup wipe.
Toner
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Toner- This will get rid of all the left over dirt and makeup that your cleanser didn't catch. (Use with a cotton ball to wipe off the whole face.)
Serum
Morning: Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution- This serum is what does the trick with my acne scaring and dark spots. It has evened out my skin and it smells amazing. (Use two drops and press into skin on face and neck.)
Night: Midnight Recovery Concentrate- This is Kiehl's top selling product, and for good reason. It is both a serum and aroma therapy, so before you go to bed it relaxes you while putting your skin to its best work at night. This is great for all skin types and will deeply hydrate your skin. (Use two drops and press into skin on face and neck.)
Additional Serum
Morning: Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate- This is packed with Vitamin C which is so important to boost overall skin health. My favorite thing about this product is how it has tightened and brightened my skin. (Apply the same way as the other two serums.)
Moisturizer
Morning & Night: Keihl's Ultra Facial Gel Cream- I love gel creams for my face over a normal cream based formula because of my oil problem. This is personal preference, but I think the texture is much more cooling and pleasant to the touch. Again, this is a product for all skin types.
Night: Clinique Smart Night- This product also boosts the repairing process as you sleep. No matter your skin concern, night time is the best time to fix it. This is oil free and makes my skin feel hydrated and firm.
Clinique Moisture Surge Spray- I use this product to moisturize my skin not only after my skincare routine, but throughout the day on top of my makeup when I can't smudge around some moisturizer. (Two sprays across your face will do the trick.)
Eye Cream
Clinique All About Eyes- This eye cream isn't crazy expensive and it actually works. At this point in my life I'm not trying to get rid of wrinkles, but rather, I am trying to stop them from forming, so I didn't want to invest a ton of money in a product that wasn't targeting my biggest concerns. This product, upon first use will truly tighten the skin around your eyes and you will feel the difference. (Apply using three fingers. Gently, tap around the eye bone, beneath and to the sides of the eye.)
P.S. If you are interested in my monogrammed bath robe. I have attached a link here. Von Maur does monogramming on your purchases, and it is only a dollar a letter so go treat yourself to something personalized.
There is no need to go out and buy all of these products, get samples and try what works best for you and your skin. Everyone's skincare is personal, it's up to you!
Thank you so much for reading. Until next time, keep up with me on Instagram (@em.schill) and let me know if you have any questions about the products I talked about. -Emma xx
