Closet Essentials

In regards to clothing, it is great to be on-trend but there are a few staple items that aren't ever going out of style, so every closet should have them. My staples are things that come in handy when you look in your closet and "you have nothing to wear." While I'm sure this is false, these take away the stress of indecisive outfit planning, and are perfect day/night go-to's.

Jeans
First, a white button-down blouse. Straightforward and timeless are two words that come to mind with this bad boy. Roll up your sleeves for a more relaxed look or tuck it in to expose a belt and  immediately look more put together.

Secondly, dark wash jeans. Every woman (and man) needs a comfortable pair of dark wash jeans. Why? All together now; you can dress them up and dress them down. Whether its a night out or a morning at the farmers market, there is no bad time to wear dark wash jeans. Style these flattering beauties with your favorite graphic tee or a sequined crop top and they will still do their job perfectly. Best thing about dark wash jeans, they're flattering. If you find the right ones, they will flatter any body shape. My advice, get a pair with a bit of a stretch, make them versatile, so that they're your go-to pair of jeans not just because the look, but the comfort as well. Don't be afraid to invest a little more in these guys, you'll get the use out of them. Finally, go for a medium to high-rise, this way, as your body changes and fluctuates, they will still hold you in (and you won't be pulling them up every 5 seconds).

Leather Bag
The last basic is a leather handbag. While shapes change, going for a basic bag can save you from changing trends and make a practical statement to your outfit. While I have opted for a light brown, black, gray, navy, even army green can be a closet staple when it comes to a leather bag. As seen before on the blog, mine has my initials in gold on the front to make it a little extra personalized and timeless (free monogramming at madewell.com).

I have styled my basics with trendy accessories, but basics can also be left basic. My accessories include a neck bandana, gold rings and bracelets, and my patterned block heels. I think a block heel is the best trend ever invented because it makes your legs look good without you feeling like you might topple over (lol). My favorite features of these shoes in particular are the heel strap and the texture. These shoes are called printed calf-hair which gives the shoe a unique look and texture.
